“…Lance Cooper, the lawyer representing the Melton family, said he likely wouldn’t have taken the case had it been relegated to Old GM. GM’s decision to take on legal liability for the Melton case and others like it opened the door for the ignition-switch revelations, he said. “If that decision had not been made at the 11th hour, we would likely not be here today,” Mr. Cooper added.”
