10 Killed In Holiday Weekend Crashes

The Georgia State Patrol reported early Tuesday morning that 10 people died in auto accidents on Georgia roads over Labor Day weekend.

The fatalities occurred in eight different accidents. The double fatalities occurred in Cartersville and Madison, and the single fatalities occurred in Toccoa, Douglas, Valdosta, and Gwinnett, and Henry counties.

One of the fatalities occurred in Cobb County when Justin Todd Keene, 22, ran off the road and into a tree. The accident occurred near Powder Springs.

The police believe Keene failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the road causing his car to cross the center line. He died at the scene of the crash.

A total of 373 wrecks were investigated by the Georgia State Patrol over the weekend starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening and ending at midnight on Monday. These accidents resulted in 230 injuries.

Troopers also arrested 240 people for driving under the influence during the holiday period and 983 citations were given for seat belt violations.
