Mazda becomes latest manufacturer to recall vehicles due to faulty Denso fuel pumps.
Mazda has announced a recall that covers over 121,000 vehicles due to the possibility that the vehicles were manufactured with a faulty fuel pump. The pump in question is manufactured by Denso, and Mazda is not the only manufacturer that has had to issue a recall due to this issue. It is estimated that over 2 million faulty fuel pumps were manufactured by Denso and installed in vehicles from nine different manufacturers. The fuel pumps in question are susceptible to developing cracks and failing, which can cause the vehicle to stall while in operation or not start at all. The recall by Mazda covers the 2018 Mazda6 sedan and Mazda3 sedan and hatchback, the 2019 CX-3, the 2018 and 2019 CX-5, CX-9, and MX-5 Miata, as well as the 2019 and 2020 Mazda2 hatchbacks. Mazda will begin notifying owners in early 2022 who can take their vehicles in to a dealer for an assessment and replacement of the fuel pump if needed. Owners can contact Mazda for more information by phone at (800) 222-5500 or visit their website by clicking here.

Ram Trucks are being recalled due to a faulty fuel pump in the 6.7-liter Cummins engine.
Stellantis, the parent company over Ram Trucks, has issues a recall that affects nearly 250,000 vehicles over a faulty fuel pump in their diesel engines. The recall states that inadvertent wear can lead to metal shavings can contaminate the mechanism, leading to stalling during operation. The affected models are the 2019 and 2020 Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty pickups as well as the 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cab trucks with the 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine. Stellantis is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to this issue. Stellantis will be sending recall notices early 2022 and the vehicles affected can be taken to authorized dealers to have the pump and any other affected components replaced. Owners can contact Stellantis at (800) 853-1403 or visit the NHTSA website for more information

Audi issues recall for multiple models due to possible deactivation of airbags.
Audi has issued a recall that covers over 200,000 vehicles due to the possibility that the passenger side airbags can be mistakenly deactivated, even with a passenger in the car. The issue is due to the wiring connecting the occupant detection system and the seat heater cable being faulty. This fault in the connection can cause the passenger side airbags to be deactivated and thus the airbags will not be deployed in the event of a collision. The affected models are the 2017-2020 A4 Allroad and Sedan, the 2018-2019 RS5 Coupe, the 2019 RS5 Sportback, as well as the 2018-2020 A5 Cabriolet, Coupe and Sportback, S4 Sedan, and the S5 Cabriolet, Coupe and Sportback. Owners experiencing this issue should notice the “passenger airbag off” light illuminated even with an occupant in the passenger seat, as well as an error message on the instrument cluster. Audi has advised that any owners that experience this problem should take their vehicle to an authorized Audi dealer as soon as possible. It should be noted that this recall is an expansion of a similar recall in 2019 that covered the 2017 A4 and A5 models. Vehicles that were repaired due to the 2019 recall will need to take their vehicles back in for this recall as well. For more information, owners can contact Audi at (800) 253-2834 or visit the NHTSA website.

Toyota issues recall covering its Camry model over issues with loss of power-braking assistance.
Over 225,000 Camry sedans from 2018 and 2019 are being recalled by Toyota due to problems of the vehicles losing their power-braking assistance. The issue is because of a defective cap in the mechanical vacuum pump that can prematurely wear down and block the supply vacuum from the brake booster. While the brakes will continue to work, they can suddenly require much more force to slow or stop the vehicle. The sudden loss of the power-braking assistance can increase the risk of a crash as it can occur without warning during regular operation. The recall does not cover the Camry Hybrid, as Toyota has said it does not have the vacuum pump. Notifications of the recall will start going out to affected owners in mid-December, and owners can take their vehicles in to an authorized dealer to have the parts replaced or repaired. For more information, owners can contact Toyota at (800) 331-4331 or visit the NHTSA website.

Certain Jeep models are subject to a recall surrounding improper airbag software.
Fiat Chrysler, which has now merged with PSA to form Stellantis, has issued a recall for almost 100,000 units from the 2021 Grand Cherokee L, and 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models. The issue is with internal faults with the vehicles airbag system that can disable the driver and passenger airbags, increasing the risk of serious injury in the event of an accident. The faults also do not cause a diagnostic trouble code to trigger, and so the drivers of the vehicles will not be aware when the airbags are improperly deactivated. Affected owners can take their car into an authorized Jeep dealer to have their system reprogrammed to fix the issue. Fiat Chrysler is expected to begin sending out notifications toward the end of the year. Owners seeking more information can contact Fiat Chrysler at (800) 853-4236 or visit the NHTSA website.
