Recall Round-Up: August 17, 2018

This week we provide the details on recalls for RAM pick-up trucks, Hyundai Genesis vehicles, Harbor Freight Gun Safes, and NEMO stargazer reclining collapsible chairs.

2015-2017 RAM 1500, 2500, & 3500
Chrysler (FCA) announced a recall for over 1.1 million RAM pick-up trucks due to a faulty tailgate latch. The affected trucks are equipped with a 5’7″ or 6’4″ tailgate bed and a power locking tailgate. The tailgate actuator limiter tab may become fractured over time causing the tailgate to open while driving increase the risk of crash or injury for the driver and surrounding vehicles. Owners can expect the recall work to begin around September 15th. You will be notified by FCA but may also contact Chrysler Customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and mention recall ‘U74’.

2018 Hyundai Genesis G80
Hyundai recalled 3300 Genesis G80 vehicles this past month. The Genesis G80 may deploy the passenger side airbag in the event of a crash even if a child or no one is present. This can greatly increase the risk of injury if anyone other than an adult occupies the passenger front seat. Recalls are expected to begin August 24, 2018 and owners will be notified by mail or you an visit Hyundai’s service site to determine if your vehicle is included.

Harbor Freight Tools Handgun Safes
Harbor Freight Tools is recalling about 25,000 handguns safes this month. According to the manufacturer, the ‘Bunker Hill Security’ safe may open without the use of a key or a combination. This can lead to unintended access to the contents of the safe, posing a risk of injury. These safes were available for purchase at Harbor Freight Tools retails stores from November 14 through February 2018 and were also sold under the brand name ‘Union Safe Company’. Harbor Freight asks consumers to immediately stop using the safe, secure handguns away from children and visit one of their nationwide stores for a refund.

NEMO Equipment Stargaze Recliner Chairs
NEMO Equipment has expanded a February recall of their collapsible Stargaze recliner chairs. The recall has added 7500 chairs to the initial recall of over 15k. Sold exclusively at REI for around $200, the Stargaze recliner chairs have a plastic joint that supports the legs that has proven to be faulty and break causing an increase chance of injury. The CPSC states the company received 14 reports of chairs breaking but no injuries. Consumers should immediately stop using the chair and contact NEMO for a free inspection or replacement.
