Marietta police officer hit by vehicle

A Marietta police officer was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic on Thursday afternoon.

The officer, James McClure, 26, was hit after trying to stop northbound traffic to let an emergency vehicle leave after an accident that had occurred earlier that day.

The accident happened around 2 p.m. on the Canton Road Connector north of Church Street extension when the driver of a silver Nissan Titan hit a stopped black Ford F-150. The collision caused the truck to hit McClure.

McClure was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. No one else was injured in the accident.
