Kennesaw State Student Emily Bowman Critically Injured in a Hit-and-Run Accident
Kennesaw State University student, Emily Bowman, received ‘life threatening’ injuries after being struck from behind by a hit-and-run driver in Athens on Saturday morning. Emily Bowman was a 19-year-old student from Cherokee County who was walking eastbound on Oak Street when a red truck driver traveling eastbound on Oak Street left the roadway and struck her from behind. The driver fled the scene, but witnesses were able to provide a description of the truck.
Police were able to find the truck shortly after, but could not find the driver. Bowman was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center for the treatment of her injuries. Dale Bowman, Emily’s father said that she was visiting Athens for her friend’s birthday. Bowman has been on a ventilator since her surgery. They removed a portion of her skull for brain swelling. Friends of Bowman said that it is horrifying to see what she looks like now.
The truck was believed to be driven by a 22-year-old who had empty beer cans in the back of the truck. The driver is not cooperating with authorities.
Bowman’s friends were trying to remain strong and are requesting for people to pray for Emily, because they don’t want to lose their best friend.
