Recall Round-Up: December 21, 2018

Welcome to our series Recall Round-Up where we scour the internet to bring you the latest information on product and automotive recalls in the United States.

This is our last post for 2018! We hope you have felt informed about the latest recall information in the United States for both products and automobiles. This week we provide details on recalls for Ford trucks, an iron supplement for women, a children’s snowsuit, and  thermostat.

  • Ford F-150

Ford issued a recall for over 800,000 F-150 trucks this week due to a fire hazard. Select 2015-2019 F-150 and 2017-2019 Super Duty trucks equipped with engine block heaters can pose a fire hazard when water and contaminants corrode the heater’s cable over time. This fire hazard only exists when the vehicle is parked and the heater is plugged in. Three fires have been reported to Ford as a result of the engine block heater cable failure, however there have not be any injuries. While Ford said they will notify owners my mail, you are also encouraged to visit NHTSA and enter your specific VIN to determine if your truck is included in the recall.

  • GNC Women’s Iron Supplement

GNC recalled over 750,000 boxes of their Women’s Iron Complete 60-count dietary supplements this month. According to the manufacturer, the packaging is not child-resistant as required by federal law. If ingested by a child, they could cause serious injury or death. GNC asks consumers to keep the supplements out of reach of children and contact their local store for a refund.

  • The Children’s Place Infant Snowsuit

The Children’s Place announced a recall this week for nearly 15,000 infant snowsuits. According to the CPSC, the metal snaps on the snowsuit can detach and pose as a choking hazard. The snowsuits were sold from August 2018-November 2018 for around $50. The Children’s Place asks consumers to immediately stop using the snowsuit and return them to any The Children’s Place store for a full refund. If you purchased the snowsuit online, you will receive an email with return instructions.

  • Emerson Thermostats

White-Rodgers is recalling about 135k Emerson branded Sensi WiFi thermostats this month. White-Rodgers received reports that if the thermostat wires come in contact with the household linee voltage, the thermostat can become a fire hazard. They have received 8 reports of minor burn damage to the homes but no injuries. The Emerson thermostats were sold at Home Depot and other retailers from April 2014 through December 2016. Customers should check their Emerson thermostat to see if they match a date code from 1416 to 1536 printed on the back. If so, please contact White-Rodgers online or toll-free at 888-847-8742.
