Mitsubishi recalls 130k vehicles for auxiliary glitches

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration along with Mitsubishi Motors has announced two recall campaigns for a total of 130,000 Mitsubishi vehicles. Both of the recalls involve the vehicle’s auxiliary system. No injuries or accidents have been reported related to either defect.

One of the two recalls affects the blower motor in the vehicles. The defect may result in the blower not defrosting the windshield properly which could cause the driver to not be able to see properly increasing the risk of a car accident. The recall covers 76,958 vehicles including the 2009-2011 Lancer manufactured between March 16, 2009 and March 30, 2011, the 2010-2011 Lancer Sportback manufactured June 17, 2009 to December 1, 2010, the 2010-2011 Lancer Evolution manufactured July 14, 2009 to January 7, 2011, the 2009-2011 Outlander manufactured February 10, 2009 to June 22, 2011, and the 2011 Outlander Sport manufactured August 26, 2010 to November 19, 2010.

The second recall is the result of defect with the electronic control unit which could have “unstable voltage” causing the headlights, taillights and windshield wipers to not function properly. This defect could also impede the driver’s ability to see and increase the risk of an accident. The recall includes 2010 Lancer manufactured January 12, 2009 to July 6, 2010, the 2010 Lancer Sportback manufactured June 17, 2009 to June 8, 2010, the 2010 Lancer Evolution manufactured July 14, 2009 to August 4, 2010, and the 2009-2010 Outlander manufactured January 12, 2009 to August 27, 2010.

Owners will be notified by Mitsubishi regarding the recall. Some vehicles may overlap with both recalls and may have to have both components replaced. Contact Mitsubishi for more information.
