Recall Round-Up: October 26, 2018

We scour the internet to bring you the latest information on product and automotive recalls in this recurring series: Recall Round-Up.

This week we cover recalls from Ford, Harley Davidson, Schwinn adult mountain bikes, and Haier refrigerators.

  • 2012-2018 Ford Focus

Ford issued a safety recall of 1.28 million Focus vehicles in the United States with 2-liter GDI and GTDI engines due to a fuel tank defect. Investigators noted that a canister purge valve could become stuck in the open position which could cause the Focus to stall and not restart. Ford encourages drivers to keep their fuel tanks at a minimum of half full until the issue can be resolved. Affected owners will be notified by US mail when they can begin bringing their vehicle to authorized dealerships in order to have the defective part fixed for free. Visit NHTSA online and enter your VIN to determine if your Ford Focus is included in the recall.

  • 2017-2018 Harley Davidson

Harley Davidson announced this week they are recalling over 280k motorcycles due to a clutch defect. The recall includes the Touring, Trike, and CVO Touring models. This is the 4th clutch related recall from Harley Davidson in 5 years and is estimated to cost about $35mm this fiscal year. Visit the Harley Davidson website and enter your VIN to determine if your motorcycle has been affected and when they estimated the repair will be completed.

  • Schwinn Mountain Bike

Pacific Cycle will recall over 17k mountain bikes due to a potential fall hazard. The 2018 Schwinn Abbott Adult Men’s Full Suspension mountain bikes were sold exclusively at Walmart from February 2018 to August 2018 for approximately $180. Pacific Cycle received 37 reports of cracks in the bike’s downtube which poses as a falling risk and increasing the likelihood of injury. The manufacturer encourages customers to stop using the bike and contact them to receive a replacement at no charge. Customers can call 877-564-2261 or go visit Pacific Cycle online for more information.

  • Haier America Refrigerators

Haier America announced a recall this week of their 10.1 Cubic Foot Top-Mount refrigerators. Sold at Lowe’s stores from September 2014-2018, over 137k refrigerators reportedly have a defective electrical component that can short circuit and increase the risk of a fire. The manufacturer received 3 reports of smoke, fire and property damage. Haier America asks consumers to immediately unplug the refrigerator and visit their website to either schedule a free in-home repair or receive a $150 rebate towards the purchase of a new Haier refrigerator.
