Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream Recalled for Listeria
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams issued a press release on the voluntary recall of their products. The recall was placed after the Nebraska Department of Agriculture found listeria in the products during an inspection. The Ohio-based company will not sell any products until they are certain they are “100-percent safe.”
The Jeni’s Splendid recall came after Blue Bell recalled all of its products for listeria. The FDA does not believe that the two outbreaks are associated, but is still in the process of investigating both recalls. This is the 16th recall associated with listeria this year however, and we haven’t even made it half way through the year. Companies are not paying close attention to the details which ends up in massive recalls.
The recall includes all ice creams, frozen yogurts, sorbets, and ice cream sandwiches in retail outlets, grocery markets, and online. For more information regarding the recall, you can visit https://jenis.com/recall/.
Listeria infects nearly 1,600 Americans every year and results in 260 deaths. Listeria can survive when frozen or refrigerated. Symptoms include muscle aches, nausea, fever, and diarrhea. Listeria can be very harmful to those with weakened immune systems such as the elderly, pregnant woman and young children. If it spreads to the nervous system it can cause headaches, confusion, loss of balance and stiff neck.
